Riders in the Tour de France burn 5,900 calories per day on average - 9,000 or more on the big climb days.


Energy expenditures and intakes were measured during the three weeks of the Tour de France.

It was found that the cyclists required 3,000 to 7,000 calories daily with energy expenditures as high as 9,000 calories per day.
