Douglas Hogg MP claimed £2,115 on his government expense account for cleaning the moat at his country estate.

He decided to stand down at the next election after the story became public in 2009.

Hogg was just one of many MPs who claimed payments for a duck island, tree surgery, guarding shrubs against rabbits, Christmas decorations and furniture on their expense accounts.
