Adaptive optics and wavefront correction software enable ground based telescopes to get better images than Hubble.
A software algorithm which analyzes the errors in the optics and those produced by atmospheric distortion can correct for aberrations in the image.
The corrected result was an image of the M13 Globular Cluster taken at Palomar showing a resolution twice as good as that captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.
When the technology is applied in space the results will be even more spectacular.
