August 8, 1898. Queen Victoria checks her text messages and approves cricket match.


Queen Victoria was spending the summer at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight when she received a text message by wireless from the crew of the royal yacht: Very anxious to have cricked match between Crescent and Royal Yachts officers.

The queen texted back her reply, The Queen approves of the match between the Crescent and Royal Yachts Officers being played at Osborne.

Marconi had personally installed the wireless Morse telegraphy stations at Osborne and on the royal yacht.

Text messages flew back and forth, mainly concerned with the planning of social events that summer.
