Tarantulas whistle when cooked on a skewer. Taste like crab.
The Goliath Bird-eater spider found in the jungles of South America is said to be the largest spider in the world and can reach up to the size of a dinner plate
Children lure the little beasts out by twiddling a stick down the hole where they hide out in the daytime. As soon as the tarantula is out, they quickly pin it down so that its long legs cannot kick poisonous hairs at them.
They first kill the spiders with a sharp tap to their bodies, then remove the rear end where the irritating hairs are found. They are skewered on sticks like kebabs and toasted over an open fire.
Before eating the spider, they can be dipped in a seasoning of chilli and salt. They say they taste like crab.
